Even FOX News is getting in on the whole “Mexican Drug Cartels are getting their machine guns and hand grenades from unregulated US gun shows” fairy tale.
They were armed to the teeth. Their arsenal ranged from semi-automatic rifles to rocket-propelled grenades.
This is modern Mexico, where the leaders of the powerful drug cartels are armed to the teeth with sophisticated weapons, many of which are smuggled over the border from the United States.
The did try for a little balance…after 2,000 words or so about how terrible it is that we horrible Americans don’t stop the flow of military weapons across the borders, they did add at the end a small token dissent:
“The 5.7 x 28, armor piercing (AP) rounds are not available for sale to the general public and are probably coming from the Mexican military,” said Stewart who has analyzed U.S.-Mexican border security issues for half a decade.
Last week Gen. Ángeles Dahuajare announced that more than 17,000 soldiers had deserted in 2008.
“The Mexican Army is becoming a revolving door for the enforcement arm of the drug cartels; they simply pay better,” Stewart said.
“If they don’t get the weapons from the U.S., they’ll get it from somewhere else: Brazil, Guatemala, Argentina or even former satellite state ‘gray markets,'” he said.
I guess that’s better than nothing, but hardly “fair and balanced”.
BTW: Lots of talk about how the US concentrates on incoming traffic and just doesn’t spend enough resources monitoring traffic from the US into Mexico…but not a peep about Mexico’s responsibility to control its own borders.
Sorry guys…it works both ways. If it’s our demand for drugs that fuels the drug cartels, it’s your demand for guns that fuels the gun running. If it’s our responsibility to secure our borders from drugs and illegals flowing from Mexico, it’s your responsibility to secure your borders from guns flowing from the US.
Of course, we all know that’s impossible because it isn’t the US that’s supplying the guns. Or are you stupid enough to believe that those 17,000 deserters from the Mexican military last year showed up at the Cartel job fair empty handed?
