In the wake of recent festivities involving heavy handed police activities in Norfolk, Knoxville, Missouri, etc, I was astounded to discover this wonderful web site: Cops Writing Cops (hat tip to Fodder) .
Reading the stories of cops whining about actually being expected to follow traffic laws like we mere serfs was bad enough.
Perusing the forums was enough to warrant duct taping my head to keep it from exploding.
I’m glad I don’t have high blood pressure or I would have needed a double dose of medicine.
Take this thread for example wherein a relatively ethical cop (seemingly an oxymoron on this web site) related a story about giving a speeding ticket to an off-duty, out of jurisdiction officer traveling at almost TWICE the legal limit on the highway.
Now. How many of we mere mortals would be free of a jail cell if clocked going 107 miles per hour in a 55 zone…on a damp road…in an overloaded SUV…with our families in the car???
The trooper only wrote the ticket for 99mph so he wouldn’t have to haul his fellow officer to jail.
What was the response of other members of the forum? Berate the ticketing officer as a “dick”.
A couple of examples:
RT, I really think you need to be mentally evaluated. You missed your calling, are you sure the burning bush didnt want to talk to you?
you made this whole story up to try and salvage being a poor excuse of a officer
If there is a better example of the “Us vs Them”, “Only One’s” mentality of our burgeoning police state, I don’t know what it might be.
It is obvious to me that many..if not most…if not all…police officers don’t see their position as one of responsibility, but as one of privilege. It is obvious to me that they see themselves in the role played by Sylvester Stallone in the movie “Judge Dredd” as he arrogantly bellowed “I AM THE LAW.”
As reports of incidents of abuse pile up; as technology gets better and the victims of such abuse use said technology to document the abuses.; as this “I’m above the law” mentality becomes more and more obvious to the average joe…this situation is going to come to a head.
Police think it’s “Us vs Them” now? Just wait. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
