VCDL Lobby Day

January 21st (John Moses Browning Day) is the annual Virginia Citizen’s Defense League lobby day in Richmond. I’ll be there and I encourage any other Virginia freedom advocates to attend as well.

Here are the details from VCDL:

1. VCDL Lobby Day information

Emotion-driven bills based on the Virginia Tech tragedy continue to come in and our rights are under attack.

We need a big turnout to send a strong message to the General Assembly: We want less gun control, not more.

We also need to make sure our representatives understand and support VCDL’s legislative agenda. The agenda will be covered when we meet at the General Assembly to start lobbying. You will be lobbying legislators in small groups. If you are new to lobbying, don’t worry, we will pair you with people who have done this before and we will also be giving you verbal instructions and handouts.

Lobby Day is Monday, January 21st, which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.(sic-ed).

We will meet in the lobby of the General Assembly, to the left of the metal detectors starting at 10 AM. Look for people wearing bright orange “Guns Save Lives” badges.

The General Assembly is at the southeast corner of 9th and Broad across the street from Richmond City Hall.

Since Lobby Day is also a holiday, you can park on the street without having to feed the meters. There are also commercial parking garages, including one on 7th street across from the Coliseum.

If you are coming, bring at least one other person with you – a spouse, a coworker, a friend. The more, the better.

If you have a CHP, you can legally carry. Be sure to have your CHP and photo ID ready as you approach the metal detector.

We are keeping a count on the number coming, so if you are coming, please RSVP to Dave Vann at:

I am keeping a count of those who are planning on spending the night in Richmond Sunday night. If we can get enough people, we will go to a local restaurant for a pre-Lobby Day briefing and get together. So be sure to mention if you will be interested in attending the briefing.

Also, there is a meeting TONIGHT in Norfolk about lobby day. I know it’s short notice but if you live on the southside and think you might be interested in going to lobby day, it would be a good idea to try to make it. The message says that the meeting is open to members of various and sundry clubs but I’d bet they wouldn’t make anyone who isn’t a member of any of them leave. I’m going to try to make it but I’m not sure I’ll be able to fit it into the schedule at this late notice. I’ll have to rebook a couple of things…but I’m gonna try.

2. VBRPC meeting Thursday, January 10th

VCDL Board member John Fenter will be addressing the January 10th (tomorrow) meeting of the Virginia Beach Rifle and Pistol Club (VBRPC) at 7:30 PM. VBRPC’s President, Steve Gordon, graciously provided VCDL with the invitation and facilities.

John will be discussing the General Assembly session, including information on the pro-gun and anti-gun bill that have been introduced. He will also discuss the upcoming Lobby Day on January 21st and will answer questions.

This will also be a great chance for members who are coming to Lobby Day from the southeast to coordinate carpools!

The meeting is open to VBRPC, VCDL, and Norfolk County Rifle Range and Airfield Shooting Club members.
