Update on Neighborhood Swat Raid

Discussed on Friday here.

Well. It wasn’t drugs like I had assumed.

Jarice Lamier Royal, 20 — of the 600 block of 41st Street, near Newsome Park — was wanted in the March 23 shooting of a 19-year-old Newport News man in the 3500 block of Marshall Avenue.

During a recent robbery investigation in Portsmouth, police there learned that Royal might be at a house on Earl Street in Norfolk, said Harold O. Eley, a Newport News police spokesman.

On Friday afternoon, a Norfolk police SWAT team raided that house, arresting Royal without incident, Eley said. A handgun was found at the scene.

He’s being held without bail at the Newport News City Jail. He had been considered armed and dangerous.

That makes me feel all warm and fuzzylike about our new neighbors.

Here’s the kicker. The Pilot posted a picture of the perp.

Remember the backyard discussion I had with the young man regarding repairs to the privacy fence. The guy who seemed evasive and cagey?

Guess who.

I had actually just posted a comment on the earlier thread saying that I had never heard what went down…then I did a quick news search and found the article. My wife will be thrilled when I tell her. I don’t think she’ll be complaining about me spending money on guns any time soon.
