Congress ignoring the “will of the people” that is.
And will continue to do it. Because we the people don’t hold them responsible for their actions and throw the bums out.
As lawmakers confront whether or not to bail out the ailing auto industry, a review of the election two weeks ago shows that, despite the thousands upon thousands of letters and phone calls devoted to protesting the $700 billion bailout package in October, their electoral impact was negligible.
Heck…I’ll guarantee you that the vast majority of Americans can’t even tell you who their Senators and Representatives ARE, let alone how they voted on the bailout.
My Representative voted NO…and lost her re-election bid. Primarily because the Republican party as a whole has failed it’s constituents and conservatives stayed home in droves on election day. The end result being that one of the most consistent conservatives in congress (not perfect, but better than most) lost her seat. Great thinking there.
We’re doomed I tell you. Doomed. We are well past Tytler’s (probably imaginary, but no less apropos) “Apathy” stage and progressing rapidly into “Dependence”.
There’s only one stage left after that: “Bondage”.
I know I’ve sounded really pessimistic lately, but I can’t help it…that’s the way I feel.
I sincerely don’t hold out much hope for the future. I sincerely believe that we have doomed our progeny to lives of servitude and, ultimately, the only way out will be to tear the whole thing down and start over again. And many will die in the effort.
“We defend freedom here or it is gone. There is no place for us to run, only to make a stand. And if we fail, I think we face telling our children, and our children’s children, what it was we found more precious than freedom. Because I am sure someday — if we fail in this — there will be a generation that will ask.”
