NR Rifle build update

The rifle is built. My son and I did most of it on Saturday and I finished it up yesterday.

Much more to come, but here’s a little teaser to get you started:

By the way: we made a really bonehead mistake when putting it together. If you’re looking really closely, you might spot it, but it’s only visible in two of the pictures of this slideshow before we corrected it. 500 bonus COACOO points to anyone who leaves a comment correctly identifying the mistake we made.

  1. That was a really neat set of shots, and no, I didn't catch the mistake… I'm still an AR n00b myself – still waiting for my first upper to come in the mail…

  2. Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!…George wins the coveted prize. He only needs 20 million more points to redeem them for one free blog post of his choosing.

When we (and when I say "we" I mean "me" because my son has never done anything like this before…he had no way of knowing it was inside out) put the delta ring on, I even thought it looked funny, but didn't figure out what was wrong until we tried to put the handguards on.

We did get extra practice removing and reinstalling the free float tube and barrel nut, so there's that.

If you watch closely, in the two frames with the barrel installed but before the handguards go on, the delta ring is sloped the wrong way, then, magically, when the handguards are installed, it reverses itself.

Excellent powers of observation and attention to detail, George.

Did you spot it the first time, or did you have to watch it a couple of times?

  3. Can we expect a dvd of the build up? I have a lower waiting to be built up this winter. I do intend to use the laminated wood furniture for my prairie dog shooter instead of the "scary" black pastic.

  4. No video…but I took lots of pictures and I'm working on the posts now.

Should start getting them up in the next day or so.

Actually, I could do a video just using stills and voiceover.

I've never really thought about that before. I take enough pictures to do that.

    Just what I need…another project.
