The Wife and I went to Indian this past weekend to check on her and lend our support to Mom, Nieces Lynda and Paradyse (her daughters) and the rest of the family.
The Wife was a real trooper and I can’t tell you how much her support and help meant to me. She drove from Norfolk to my rented place in Northern Virginia, we jumped in the truck and headed west. We traded off to give each other a chance to rest so we’d be functional after getting there at about 4am, but she did most of the driving because I was pretty tired after having had to be up early.
She was incredibly supportive of everyone and went out of her way to help in every way she could. If you’re reading this honey…thank you very much and I love you.
Anyway, the important thing: Yolanda isn’t out of the woods by any means, and her recovery, to whatever level she reaches, is going to be a long one, but there are some positive signs.
By Saturday the brain swelling had stabilized to the point that they started taking her off the medication that was helping to keep her in the coma. She’s now completely off of that an the pain meds.
She was moving around some in her sleep and the Nurses said she opened her eyes when they were moving her at one point. That doesn’t necessarily speak to her level of consciousness, but it is a positive sign.
After we got home today I called mom and she told me that they had removed the probes from her head today and actually reduced the ventilator to the point where she was breathing on her own for a while…a first step to weaning her off of the vent.
It still could be weeks before she wakes up…if she wakes up…but these are all good signs.
Thank you all for your prayers, please keep them coming as she will be needing them for some time to come. I know some people are skeptical, but I believe in the power of prayer and that miracles can and do happen, if it is God’s Will that it be so.
