Beautiful morning for a ride.

Perfect for a brisk morning ride.

Although, when it looks like this outside, even if, as you can see, the roads are pretty clear, when it’s that cold, you do have to worry about ice patches.

And I did actually encounter a few on the way to work this morning.

Ice and two wheels just…for some strange reason…aren’t very compatible.

The key is to not do anything.  Just drive right through it, don’t accelerate, don’t decelerate, don’t try to steer, just keep it straight and steady and you’ll go right over it.

If you do start to skid, drop off the throttle (if you’re on it), steer into the skid and keep the bike under you until you hit dry pavement again.  No sweat.  Whatever you do DO NOT HIT THE BRAKES.  You will eat pavement if you do.

Anyway, lest you think I’m completely nuts, there is a reason that I rode today and looking at the remainder of the forecast for today tells the story.

Sunny and 45…now that IS perfect weather for riding.

Maybe I’ll take a shortcut through North Carolina on my way home this evening.

  1. Don't know if you're going to get all the way down to the Charlotte area, but if you do, I have barbecue cooking on the smoker, it will be done around 5 or so this evening. 🙂

  2. Nope, won't get that far South unless I don't want to get home until tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer though…I'll take a rain check.

  3. Once came out of a class at about 9:30pm to find it snowing like hell and about two inches on the ground; forecasters had missed it entirely.

Made for a real interesting five or six mile ride home.
