We have a new entry to make to the Journalists Guide to Firearms Identification:
The infamous 12-gauge “street sweeper” assault rifle.
The no-questions-asked program yielded more than 200 nonworking guns, 170 rifles, 219 handguns and even a 12-gauge “street sweeper” assault rifle.
That’s just funny right there. I don’t care who you are.
I could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that any cop could be firearms ignorant enough to make a statement like that in seriousness.
It’s possible that the “authorized journalists” just wrote the quote down wrong, or perhaps even made it up out of whole-cloth. In my years of exposure to the media, diligence and integrity are two traits that have not stood out to me as being among their strong suits.
But I’m really beginning to wonder if the cops feed reporters these sorts of descriptions as a joke: just to see if they’re ignorant and incompetent enough to put them into their stories without bothering to do the thirty seconds of research it would take to figure out that the statement is BS to the point of ridiculousness.
And “journalists” wonder why their industry is dying.
