And so it begins

Hurricane Irene, knocking at the door.

We’re in the Norfolk area, right at the northern edge of the storm.
The view from the front porch at about midnight Friday night/Saturday morning. This was using a very long exposure so the rain is hard to see because it’s blurred, but it’s basically just sprinkling right now with very little wind.

I have a feeling that power outages are going to be widespread and lasting in this area so I may not be able to update throughout the storm, but we’ll see what happens.

The last hurricane that hit us (Isabel, several years ago) knocked out power for a week, but the cable connection was still working the whole time. I’ve got a generator, so if I can get an internet connection, I’ll try to bring the computer up long enough to post some updates when I can.

It’s looking like it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
