So, it’s common knowledge that gun sales have been astronomical last year and so far this year and it’s not just us old fat white guys buying more of what we already have:
A report released this month by the National Shooting Sports Federation stated that 40% of all gun purchases in 2020 were made by 8.4 million first-time buyers.
Classes of people once generally opposed to guns are fueling the spike in firearm sales. Forty percent of gun buyers were women, and sales to African Americans rose 58%, according to the report.
So, with that in mind, I want to remind all those 8 million new gun owners about not only my standing offer to provide training, free of charge, to new shooters, but also of the network of people across the nation who are making the same offer.
Keep in mind that we’re not offering training on how to become gunfighters or “operators”, we’re offering training on how to safely handle, use and store firearms including the basics of gun handling and marksmanship. What we are offering is the beginning, not the end. It’s the foundation upon which to build your skills.
The only thing that might put a damper on things right now is availability of ammunition. We can still do the training, but live fire might be minimal unless you can provide your own ammo.
We’ve got lots of new gun owners who need training and not all can afford commercial instruction. I got my NRA and 4H instructor qualifications not to make money with them, but to be better positioned to share what knowledge I have and grow the gun owning and shooting community.
